Are you looking for places to visit in Europe with children in tow? With three kids, finding the right holiday can be tricky. It has to suit all of our needs and we need to consider location, facilities, accommodation and of course the weather! I love Europe as it’s close enough to take the children on holiday without the hassle of a long haul flight.
There is so much to see that really, I think I have only scratched the surface! Having a large family, holiday rentals is a great option for us as it gives us the flexibility and can feel like a home from home, creating a perfect affordable holiday for us as a family of five. Clickstay is a great resource when researching this kind of accommodation for you and your family with over 70,000 properties around the world in locations such as Spain, Portugal and Thailand.
I would love to explore the vibrant and exciting city of Amsterdam, relax and unwind in St Ives in Cornwall and visit the fun and traditional theme park of Tivoli Gardens in Denmark. But all in good time hey! In this post I will be sharing with you my top 5 places to visit in Europe with the kids in tow. So without further ado, let’s get down to business!
How can I not talk about travel and not mention our favourite place Disneyland! This is a holiday for those that love to visit a magical spectacle of rides, parades, shows and being a kid yourself all over again. Disneyland Paris offer’s 7 hotels (6 on site) however, you can stay in Paris and get a short train/taxi ride to the resort. It really is one of them holidays where the memories last a lifetime. We have recently come back from our 3rd trip and already I am wanting to return!
My second to include in my top 5 places to visit in Europe with children is Ibiza. We have been to the Spanish island of Ibiza twice now and I know we will continue to return as a family. I think most people consider the island to be ‘the party island’ of the Balearics. However, the island really offers so much more, especially to families. Santa Eulalia is a resort situated on the west of the island (opposite to the thrills of San Antonia Bay). With beautiful family friendly beaches (that also includes the first smoke free beach in Europe!) seafront restaurants, scattered play areas, an array of watersports and a water park 30 minutes drive away, it really is a resort suitable for all. Santa Eulalia is home to a diverse range of hotels and the island as a whole offers beautiful picturesque family villas. Clickstay offer various accommodation types across the island from luxury villas to beautiful apartments right on the beachfront!
Staying close to home, I cannot not mention the wonderful stunning Centre Parcs. Centre Parcs opened its first of 5 villages at Sherwood Forest, Nottingham in 1987, providing short break holidays in the forest all year round. We first visited Sherwood Forest Centre Parcs in February 2018 and fell in the love with the place. It really is perfect for all ages with so much to do. With some activities at a cost, you can also visit the swimming paradise for free, take long walks and play on the beach or let the kids loose in the many playgrounds. The resort offers fantastic opportunities to learn and try new things, such as climbing, kayaking and even fun discos and classes for you and the kids. We loved our stay and cannot wait to return back next year!
Located in Salou, this really had to be included in my top 5 places to visit in Europe with children. Offering one theme park and one water park, you can either stay on site at one of the 5 hotels or in the nearby resort of Salou. If you are after a holiday with non-stop fun combining thrilling theme parks, luxury accommodation and Europe’s only Ferarri Land, then this is the place to consider! We first visited in 2013 and had a wonderful time. The resort of Salou has a lovely promenade running adjacent to the beach, top restaurants and is only a short land train ride to the theme park! There is also an abundance of accommodation options!
I never thought a city break and children went hand in hand. But we visited the hustle bustle of London Town this year for three days WITH three kids, and it was great! We stayed in a Travel Inn to keep cost down but there are many Clickstay flats and apartments in various locations across the city. During our visit, we jam-packed our visit with loads of fun stuff. We visited Shrek’s Adventure, saw the sights of London on an open top bus and ate American style food at Rainforest Cafe. To make our stay easier, we considered where we stayed, how we were going to get around London and planned our attraction visits in advance. Read my top tips on planning a visit to London here!
Crete is roughly a 4.5 hour flight from the UK, which is the longest out of my selection. However, the island is one Europe’s most popular holiday destinations due to it’s beautiful sandy beaches and idyllic landscapes. The island is one to explore as a family, which you can do via hiring a rental car from one of the islands many rental services, such as auto-huren-kreta.nl It’s a fantastic way to see the island with the kids, and perhaps take a tour of the island skipping from the plethora of baby and toddler friendly accommodation along the way!
And there we have it! Of course there are lots more places to visit in Europe with children on the bucket list! I hope this offers some inspiration for those looking to travel soon with their kids in tow!
