The festive season is upon us that can only mean one thing in my eyes…..Festive FOOD!!! Three Church Road Bistro at St George’s place in Edgbaston Birmingham, kindly invited me to their newly launched festive afternoon tea. Three Church Road is based within Adderley Village which is a private residential village that embodies stylish senior living. However, it is open to the public and for all to enjoy.
Before we began our festive afternoon tea at Three Church Road, we had a guided tour of St George’s Place and what the village had to offer to both its residents and guests. I was amazed at the decor of this place – think stylish meets comfort. It really felt like one big home and it was a pleasure to wonder round at our leisure with a glass of fizz taking it all in. I was especially in love with the spa and swimming pool which is open to guests, including a gym- I may just have to return for a relaxing swim and a treatment!
After our detailed tour, we then made our way to a private dining room where there was a select few to enjoy afternoon tea. There was an extensive tea and coffee menu but I just went for an English breakfast. We then got treated to what we had all been waiting for – our afternoon tea! As with most afternoon teas in Birmingham, it was served on a three-tiered stand.
We started of with the finger sandwiches which were ok. We had ham and mustard however I couldn’t taste the mustard but I do like it strong! There was also wensleydale and cranberry which was my favourite, and Earl grey infused cucumber. To be honest, I didn’t really understand the earl grey infusion to the cucumber. I couldn’t taste it and it made the cucumber have a brown like colour to it. I cannot speak for the smoked salmon belini but my friend said she really enjoyed it.
We then moved onto the sweet plate which I was really looking forward to. We enjoyed the delights of a gingerbread star biscuit which looked pretty impressive with its silver dusting and tased ever so festive. The mulled wine jelly with cream and edible flower was delicious and the chocolate orange macaroon had to be my favourite – delicious! We also got to taste lemon madeleines and a white chocolate snow ball.
And at last but surely not least, we were then brought out two types of scones to try – plain and orange zest with cranberries. I went for the pain as they were the biggest(!), with clotted cream and little pots of strawberry jam to accompany them – what a treat!
The festive afternoon tea at Three Church Road launched on the 1st December 2018 so is available for you to enjoy now at a price of £22.50 per person. It really is a beautiful setting that oozes luxury and sophistication, with the addition of attentive staff.
