Everyone experiences a travel slump at some point. It feels like you always go to the same places. You’ve seen it all before and it isn’t as you once remembered. The spark is extinguished, and you feel worn out from your travels. This isn’t a sign for you to hang up the suitcase for good, though. Instead, it’s the opportunity to do something different. Whether you want to travel with your partner or your whole family, here are four ideas to do something different on your next holiday.
All family holidays should be exciting, but the same adventure parks every year are bound to lose their lustre at some point. Instead of going to the same places, consider trying another type of holiday. If your kids are old enough, active holidays such as snowboarding in the alps or even a Sicily cycling tour can encourage them to find a new hobby and it also allows you to stay fit and healthy during your trip. You can also consider destinations you’ve never visited before. If you primarily travel around Europe, North or South America could be a great place to reignite your spark.
Many families travel on a budget. They choose a comfortable (but affordable) hotel or villa, yet even these lack certain amenities that would turn the trip into one to remember for years to come. While you may not be able to justify luxury holidays every year, treating yourself to luxury accommodation can relieve all the stress that’s built up over the past few years. You can finally unwind by the pool in a high-class location while you watch the sunrise, and what’s better than that?
Do not literally explore your house, but instead think about all the possible destinations you can explore around your city, county, or anywhere your car will take you. If you have a National Trust membership, you have a wide range of outdoor spaces to enjoy, and beachside destinations are a great option for summer. If you’ve never treated your country like a tourist would, you may be in for an excellent surprise that shows you how much there is to treasure.
Occasionally, travellers will come to a point where they do not need to plan anything, and if you have years of globetrotting experience, the idea of getting on a plane and heading somewhere without making plans might appeal to you. This can be tricky if you have kids, but if you don’t, it can inspire the spontaneous feeling you feel you may have lost over the years, and it’s a memory that you and your partner will be able to laugh about for years to come.
It can feel impossible to get excited about any adventure when you’re in a slump, but these tips should help you pull yourself out and look forward to another trip that may just be around the corner. If you’re looking for something different from your usual holidays, any of these ideas can make you remember why you fell in love with travel in the first place.
