90’s Nostalgia: What I loved about the Spice Girls

Ahhh, the 90’s – how I miss it!  I entered the 90’s at 3 years old and was introduced to many a girl/boy band, retro sweet and the ever so popular tween magazines such as Sugar and Smash Hits!  It was a time of growing up and beginning to learn about what I loved as a child prior to entering my teen years. It was a lot of fun – especially the Music!

Who could not love 90’s music?!  Even now, I ask Alexa to play a 90’s playlist, taking me back to the days of carefree life!  Some of my favourite bands included The BackStreet Boys, NSync, and of course The Spice Girls!  Take That were ever so popular in our house having older sisters and we also used to listen to Oasis – A LOT!

The Spice Girls have recently made a huge come back with a massive UK tour (if you didn’t know, where have you been!?)  Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get tickets, but I would love to see them live!  The Spice Girls have recently teamed up with Walkers Crisps and have created an epic advert which I saw for the first time last week – it was awesome and really showed that The Spice Girls are still as amazing as ever!

Even now, if a Spice Girls song came on the radio, the volume will be cranked up and I will be singing at the top of my lungs!  Every song is memorable and holds such solid memories for me growing up.

At school, we would often spend out break times acting our the songs to the Spice Girls.  More often than not, I was Sporty Spice (I usually wore my hair scrapped back with PLENTY of hairspray so I could see why this was the decision made!)  They were an impressionable girl band but were still ‘child-friendly’, stylish and FUN!  They were sexy but in an acceptable way, funny and were idols for so many young girls around the globe.  Something I feel it missing in the music industry at the moment I have to say…

So for me, I am so glad the Spice Girls are BACK!  And I would love them to bring out a new album, with or without Posh (but girl, get yourself back in the band and complete the fivesome!)  They hand on heart, were a group of girls who managed to change the music industry back in the 90’s,  and really created a sense of empowerment for all girls and women across the globe.  Thats what their motto was, as well as creating fun and creative music.  GIRL POWER!

So, now I am off to play Spice Girls: The Greatest Hits and introduce Missy to their fun-loving girl band that her Mama used to love.

Which Spice Girl were you when growing up?
