Valentines Day is fast approaching (11 Days and counting!) and you can bet your top dollar that most stores are now kitted out with everything that screams LURVE. People either love or hate Valentines Day. Sure, it’s a day of love. But isn’t most days?!
For us, I love any kind of celebration and I always think it’s fun and exciting to join in. Whether that be with the kids making Valentines crafts, or simply opening a bottle of fizz and enjoying a more luxurious meal at home.
Matt and I have been together 17 years this Valentines. We’ve done the extravagant gifts and made a pretty big deal about it. Now, we still have that love, but its more about sharing a bag of sweets or a cake on the sofa and watching a good horror film!
With that being said (and with the mention of sweets AND cake) comes my idea of creating a unique sweet gift for Valentines Day, especially for the kids. Whatever the occasion, confectionary seems to be the top gift of choice at the moment. Both kids and adults alike love the stuff and many brands such as Swizzels are jumping on the demand for such gifts.
So, what did I have in mind?
I wanted to combine something that I love doing with something they love. My love is baking. And all three of the kids love cake…and sweets. So, I simply put two and two together and decided to make a Valentines cake featuring some of the Swizzel sweets provided in the Swizzel sweet hamper. Yes, this was going to be a FULL on sugar fix! What is she thinking I hear you say?! Kids and sugar don’t mix!
I simply baked a Victoria Sponge cake (if a little wonky – I didn’t say I was an expert!) and allowed the kids to get stuck in with decorating using sweets from the retro sweets hamper (which is a perfect gift in it’s own right by the way!) and using the new limited edition pink love hearts!
As you can imagine, sweets were EVERYWHERE and whilst they attempted to decorate the cake to the best of their ability, many a sweet may have been popped into their mouths whilst they were hard at work.
It was so much fun to do as not only do I love to bake, but it was also a lovely fun Valentines activity to do with the kids.
If cakes are not your thing but your looking for that sweet fix this Valentines, these Swizzels personalised love hearts are super cute, offering a romantic gesture to a loved one, whether that be for the kids, a friend or partner. Anything personalised is always an extra special treat in my eyes. Swizzels are now offering these personalised love heart tubes. After all these love hearts have disappeared into our tummies, I will 100% be keeping this tube – perhaps for storing pens on my desk. These personalised love heart tubes are new for 2020 and are readily available just in time for Valentines Day 2020 and only costing £9.99.
Swizzels have also created their new limited edition pink valentines rolls, which look fab on my Valentines cake!
And if all that wasn’t enough, Swizzels also have this super cute and jam packed Swizzel Sweets Hamper, priced at only £7.99 (which I think is a bargain!) This would make a perfect light hearted gift for Valentines and one in which you hope to be shared!
Despite this being the most OTT sweetest cake of the century, this really was a one off and thankfully my kids love fruit and veg as much as they do sweets. Everything in moderation I say!
How are you celebrating this Valentines Day?
