AmazingCo Family Mystery Picnic Review

A few weeks ago we decided on a day out with a difference!  If you follow my blog you know that we love a great family day out, from simple visits to the local park to theme parks far and wide (did you know we love Disney!?)  I hadn’t even heard of a mystery picnic before but after doing some research on the internet and finding out more about what AmazingCo had to offer, I was super keen to give this a go and offer a review on my blog for you all to enjoy!

What is AmazingCo

AmazingCo is a worldwide service, offering mystery picnics (and a whole host of other epic experiences all over the world).  When I first initially found out about AmazingCo, I did think that there would be no chance that this would feature in the UK.  However, I was wrong!  AmazingCo work in quite a few areas within the UK including local areas Birmingham and Stratford Upon Avon.  I also noticed that some of their experiences are also coming to the Cotswolds soon which isn’t too far from us either!

Family Day out with a Difference

Being a family of 5 often means we have ‘family dates’.  And with the offer of a family mystery picnic, I thought that this would be a great way to do something difference in our local area.  We decided to choose Stratford Upon Avon as we love it here and there is lots going on for us all to enjoy.  To take part in the mystery picnic, you simply chose what experience you wish to take on, add how many children you have (the family mystery picnic is for 2 adults and 2 children) so we just had to add an extra child on (additional charge applies of £10 per extra child).  You can then chose your date.

So I bet your all wondering – how does a mystery picnic work?  If you have taken a treasure trail before, it is a little bit similar with clues to take you around a local area, but this time you’ll include local bakeries, eateries, drink stops and restaurants which are thrown in to the mix!

24 hours prior to your epic adventure beginning, you’ll be sent your first clue!  You can access this so that you can begin solving the clue which will take you to your first stop.  This clue is sent via email and following on from the first clue, the second clue will appear (almost like a digital booklet)  There are also hints to help.

We got working on the first clue (giving away no spoilers!) which was really fun to solve (if a little tricky for my children!)  We parked up and worked our way around Stratford upon Avon solving clues and collecting our food orders.

Some clues would lead us to a place of interest, for example a heritage building or a lovely view to admire.  The other clues would lead us to various eateries which were part of the AmazingCo mystery picnic tour.  At first, I was hesitate as to what to say to the member of staff.  But as soon as I mentioned I was there to collect our mystery picnic order, they knew immediately and either had the items of food waiting or quickly made up our chosen order.

Our final clue lead up to a particular beauty spot for us to enjoy all our food that we had gathered on our mystery picnic tour.  In total, there are around 10-12 clues and it took around 90 minutes to enjoy wandering around Stratford Upon Avon.

What food did we receive on our mystery picnic

So, I bet you are wondering what food was included in our mystery picnic.  Aside from selecting any allergies and dietary requirements when booking, I had no idea what food to expect on our picnic.  And I was not disappointed AT ALL!

In total we stopped off at 5 eateries on our mystery tour and each place offered such a difference in food!  If your looking to do a Stratford Upon Avon Mystery Tour, please skip this section if you wish to not know what you receive!

We received a cauliflower vegan salad with crostini’s from our first stop which was literally a hidden gem!  We then picked up a huge anti pasta platter consisting of olives, cured meats, toasted sourdough bread, cheeses, salad, chuntney- the works!

It looked so impressive and we love this sort of food and lucky that my kids do too!  We visited a high street bakery for 5 huge sausage rolls and 3 delicious milkshakes for the kids – yum!

We also visited a lovely little eatery that looked magical inside.  From here we picked up some sweet treats such as cookies and brownies – we got loads.  Plus 5 bottles of water.

Wow what a treat!  We were so impressed!  We settled down in their recommended spot right near the waters edge where Stratford Upon Avon hold some entertainment.

Our thoughts of taking a Mystery Picnic from AmazingCo

We absolutely LOVED this experience as it is right up our street considering we love to try new foods!  It literally was a culinarily delight and it was lovely to find new food outlets to try for next time we visit Stratford Upon Avon.  We loved exploring and then finally enjoying the food we collected on our journey. I would say this mystery picnic experience is perfect for couples and friends and if you have older children.  My four year old didn’t grasp the concept of trying to solve clues that he couldn’t understand and rightfully so, as this is recommended for children over 8 I’d say.  My 11 year old thought it was fun though.  If you do choose to do a family mystery picnic, make sure the kids are not hungry at the beginning as they’ll find it hard to wait until the end of the tour.

Overall, an amazing experience, with fun and exciting clues, a great way to see a new or local area and an even better way of eating a picnic.  We loved it.

Our experience costs £90 for a family of 5. We were kindly gifted our experience.  All words and opinions are my own.
