Coping with Hair Loss

Having long hair means that I can loose hair.  Actually quite a lot.  I’ve talked about wearing hair extensions to offer thickness and length, but how does this actually make us feel?

Why do we loose hair?

There are many factors that can contribute to hair loss, such as stress, length of hair, hair damage and overuse of harsh chemicals.  Hair loss can also follow once having a baby.  This is called postpartum hair loss and is very common, in particular around the third month after birth.  Not every new mother will experience this, but it is temporary and is all down to your hormones.

I feel that hair loss in both women and men is a little bit of a taboo subject.  You can’t hide your head, and so for some, this is something that they have to deal with everyday…and struggle with on a daily basis, in view of everyone else.

So, what can we do to reduce the cause of hair loss?

There are many factors to consider when it comes to considering how and what to do to reduce the amount of hair lost.

GP advice

Firstly, visit your doctors.  Don’t be afraid to reach out and seek advice from a medical perspective.  You certainly shouldn’t feel ashamed about your hair loss, and if there is treatment in a medical form, whether temporary or long term, don’t hesitate to find out more.  There are many medical options, so speak to your GP and find out if you can be referred to a specialist.

To reduce the cause of hair loss, adopting a holistic approach that encompasses diet, stress management, and proper hair care is crucial. Incorporating essential oils and serums into your hair care routine can significantly improve hair growth and overall scalp health. Products like peppermint oil and rosemary oil have been shown to stimulate hair follicles, promoting growth. Additionally, using specifically designed products, like a serum for longer hair can nourish the scalp and strengthen hair strands, reducing breakage and loss. Overall, maintaining a healthy lifestyle combined with the targeted use of essential oils and hair growth serums can create a conducive environment for reducing hair loss and encouraging the growth of stronger, longer hair.

Reduce Stress

Stress is a huge factor of experiencing hair loss, and for both women and men can be detrimental to the growth of hair.  It’s pretty scary how stress can have such huge implications to parts of our body, and as a hair is on show for the world to see, this is something that cannot be concealed easily.  Reducing stress is paramount to keeping both our mind and our body healthy, so consider what changes you can make in your life to reduce any stress you are experiencing.

Look after your hair with the right hair products

Another thing to consider when thinking about protecting your hair is using the right hair products and that includes the use of straighteners and hair dryers.  There are lots of different hair dryers to consider but mdlondon have a great range of items including the BLOW hairdryer which is the next generation hair dryer currently on the market.

Stop using cheap hair extensions

Using cheap hair extensions with harsh glue can cause serious damage to your hair.  In the short run, these hair extensions options may be cheap, but in the long run you will be paying a bigger price.  Consider clip in extensions to reduce the amount of harsh chemicals that you put on your hair, and give your hair a break!  For men, there are some fantastic hair pieces that are on the market, and look so realistic.

It could be hereditary

Before you think about what you can do to reduce and cope with your hair loss, consider if your hair loss is hereditary.  If this is something that runs in the family, firstly see how other members of your family have managed to cope with their own hair loss, and what options they put in place to support it.  Secondly, it may be something that you have to accept, which of course doesn’t make it any easier to manage.  Seeking support from family members can see you though this difficult time and offer advice and guidance.  For men, baldness can be hereditary and can occur at an early age.  Men’s custom toupees are a great alternative or even a mono hair replacement system.

Whatever you choose, hair loss shouldn’t be ignored or anything to be ashamed about.  Have you experienced hair loss?  Any tips and advice, please comment below!
