Disney’s Newport Bay Hotel Review

Disney’s Newport Bay Hotel was the first hotel we stayed in when visiting Disneyland Paris in 2016.  There are seven hotels onsite at Disneyland Paris.  They all differ in price and have different theming.  However, all but one are walking distance to Disney Village and both parks, and all are beautiful and unique in their own right.  You have:

Standard/Budget:

Sante Fe Hotel

Cheyenne

Moderate/Plus:

-Newport Bay Hotel

-Hotel New York New York

Sequoia Lodge

-Davy Crockett Ranch (off site but a Disney hotel.  Requires driving.)

Premium:

-Disneyland Hotel

We booked Disney’s 4 star Newport Bay hotel for 6 nights in May 2016.  There was an option to upgrade for Compass club, but we chose against this as we knew we would be spending most of our time in the parks.  The hotel was going through its final stages of renovation and was 90% complete when we arrived.  Whilst we were there, the only part of the hotel that needed work was the conference centre, which made no difference to us.   The theme for Newport Bay is 1900’s New England coastal manor and has a nautical theme throughout.  The hotel is located on Disney’s lake so is the perfect setting for the hotel’s exterior and interior.

Newport Bay hotel is around a 10 minute walk to Disney Village and another 5/10 minute walk through the village to arrive at the parks.  You can of course take the shuttle to and from the parks which run every 30 minutes.  However, I found with buggies, it is a lot easier to walk and it is also lovely to see the sights of the lake and enjoy the Village too (and the shops!)

Rooms at Newport Bay hotel

We stayed in a standard room at the Newport Bay Hotel during our break at Disneyland Paris.  Standard rooms consist of two large double beds, en suite bathroom with separate vanity area, wardrobe cabinet/desk, TV, hairdryer, safe and air conditioning.  If you are lucky, you may be able to get a lake side room, giving you beautiful views of the lake.  Of course this is available for an extra charge.  Our view was of the gardens, which we were more than happy with!

The wallpaper in a standard room at Newport Bay hotel is nautical themed featuring some of the disney charactersB and W on the bed in our hotel room at NPB cheering at the camera

The room decor is simply elegant, with a nautical feel and hints of Disney.  I loved the wallpaper, showing the characters through port holes.  The Disney theming at Newport Bay Hotel is discreet yet still feels fun and exciting!  The rooms sleep up to four/five people so this was perfect.  At the time of our stay, Missy was still in a cot.  We still have plenty of space to navigate around the room, so the rooms are spacious.  We loved our room and found the beds to  be super comfortable too – or that may be due to exhaustion after full days in the parks!

What  is at Newport Bay Hotel?

The hotel is also home to an indoor and outdoor pool, sauna and steam bath and Bay Boutique.  Bay Boutique is a lovely store offering the standard Disney merchandise, however does offer a small supply of fridge items (milk cartons etc) and daily essentials such as shampoo, showergel etc. We used the swimming at Newport Bay on several occasions as it is nice to have a break away from the parks from time to time.  However, we only used the indoor pool as the outdoor pool was under refurbishment

(TIP: Before booking your DLP holiday, always check pool closures as this may affect your stay!)

We found the pool to be lovely and warm, with smaller paddling pools to the side of the main pool which is perfect for toddlers to play in.   Again, in line with the rest of the hotel, the pool has a nautical theme with a boat acting as a viewing platform, being the centre of attention.

Dining at Newport Bay hotel

The hotel offers several dining areas to choose from.  There is:

-Cape Cod (Plus buffet restaurant)

-Yacht Club (Plus)

Captains Quarters bar

During our stay, we dined at Cape Cod during our first night.  This buffet restaurant is perfect as it literally offers everything, from fresh fish dishes, to pasta and delightful salads.  There is various canapes/small starters to inspire your taste buds and wholesome tasty mains.  The desserts are all a selection of fruit, chocolate and wonderful mixes of pastries.  There is even a build your own pancake station which went down a storm with Mr B and Missy!  We found our meal here to be delicious and I would totally recommend dining here during your stay.  The price for the buffet is 34.99 euros per adult and 24.99 euros per child (at time of booking).  This restaurant is also where you will enjoy a buffet breakfast offering the works!

During our last two trips, we have visited Newport Bay and used Captain Quarters as a pit stop to recharge our batteries.  Offering delicious cocktails and savoury snacks, this bar is perfect to relax and unwind in.  Although small and quiet, the bar is still accepting of children and do lovely kids cocktails with a flashing ice-cube!

Top Tips

-Check-in is 3pm as with most Disney hotels.  However, whatever time you arrival is, always check to see if your room is ready.  We arrived around 11am and our room was ready and waiting.

-Don’t all queue.  If you are a large family, it only takes one of you to check in.  Go and explore the hotel whilst one of you does all the work!

-If you have children that use a buggy, I recommend asking for a room near a lift.  This means less walking (this hotel is huge) and means you’ll be nearer to restaurants/bar/reception/lake.  However, if you prefer a room elsewhere, during check-in state your preferences and the staff are more than happy to offer you what they can!

-If you are celebrating on your trip, (birthday, anniversary, honeymoon etc) state when you check in – you MAY get some pixie dust.  For example, our first trip we were celebrating B’s 6th birthday.  They gave my son a voucher to purchase two complimentary pins of his choice!

-Pre book your restaurant.  I actually recommend to prebook all your reservations during your entire stay 60 days in advance.  Restaurants get busy and you do not want to miss out!

-Don’t forget that as a Disney hotel guest, you can make use of Early Magic Hours (EMH).  This means you can access the parks 1 hour prior to non Disney hotel guests.  This is defiantly worth it, and whilst not all rides are open, you can do a fair amount in this time!

-If you are driving, there is free parking (unlike WDW!)

-Fancy a cocktail with a difference?  Ask for a Glowtini when you are at the bar!

-Check what time the Disney characters visit the hotel lobby – it may only be a short queue! For more ideas on how to meet the Disney characters at Disneyland Paris, check my post out here!
