Effective Ways to Ramp up your Oral Hygiene Routine

From as young as we can remember, our parents instilled in us the importance of looking after our teeth and gums. When your adult teeth shift into place, you only get one set of them. To avoid gum disease, tooth decay, and losing teeth, you need to have a robust oral hygiene routine in place to keep your mouth squeaky clean.

Even if you think you’re doing your best, there is always a tip or two that can accelerate your oral health. With that in mind, here are some useful suggestions to take on board.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

We can’t kick things off without giving the most important tip of all-seeing your dentist. Regular dental appointments are vital for keeping your teeth and gums in good health. If you’re seeking the best dentist in Wimborne, look no further than Corn Market Dental. They have many years of experience in the dental world and provide an array of services, including check-ups, teeth whitening, and teeth straightening options.

Brush Your Teeth for 2 Minutes

While we don’t doubt you brush your teeth each day, how long are you actually doing it for? Many of us are guilty of only brushing for a matter of 30 seconds. Unfortunately, this won’t do the job. You need to be brushing your top and bottom set for 2 minutes. This gives you enough time to reach every area of your mouth. Try using a timer on your phone so you know when to stop. This is because brushing for too long can be just as dangerous as hardly doing so!

Floss Each Day

It’s not the most fun job to do but flossing in between your teeth is paramount for keeping your oral health in check. Whether you achieve this by using flossing sticks or purchasing a water flosser, you must get into the habit of flossing your teeth once a day. It’s wise to floss before going to sleep, rather than first thing in the morning. This is because there may be food trapped in your teeth during the night.

Use a Fluoride Mouthwash

When finishing your oral hygiene routine, you can’t go wrong with a swish of mouthwash. Just make sure to pick one that has fluoride in it. This is a naturally occurring mineral that can help prevent tooth decay. Mouthwash is excellent for preventing gum disease, reducing bad breath, and ultimately, protecting your teeth.

Limit Sugary Drinks

You’re forgiven if you love nothing more than a can of coca-cola. We’re a nation of fizzy pop lovers after all. But, how much you drink can have a catastrophic impact on your teeth. Think about all the sugar that’s in fizzy drinks. The more you have, the more issues you may encounter with your oral health. If you can, it’s wise to limit how many sugary drinks you have. We’re not saying you have to wave goodbye to them for good but sticking to 1 can a week is best. Overall, you should be drinking lots of water as it’s great for your teeth and gums.

Your oral health plays a major part in your general wellbeing. To keep your teeth and gums healthy, it doesn’t hurt to read the above and put them into action. Paying attention to your oral hygiene routine is what will keep your teeth in tip-top condition.
