Four Ideas for Keeping Your Kids Entertained in Lockdown

Lockdown rules might have been relaxed a little bit but for most people, it still means staying at home as much as possible to flatten the curve and prevent the spread of COVID19. If you’ve got kids at home, you’ll probably be able to relate to most mums and dads across the country with bored little ones who are running out of things to do. Unless you’re lucky enough to have a playground in your back garden, chances are that your kids are getting a little bit fed up of being stuck inside and unable to go and visit their friends.  Lockdown has been tough on all of us, but especially children who might not fully understand exactly what’s going on and the seriousness of the situation. If you’re running out of ideas, here are some fun things that your kids can do to stay entertained during the lockdown.

Get Sponsored

There are so many worthwhile charities to raise money for, especially in the time of a pandemic. And for kids, there are plenty of fun and interesting activities to take part in that they can ask for sponsorship for. Teenagers will love the sponsored 24-hour gaming session taking part across the country for Macmillan, or you could take part in a classic activity like a sponsored head shave (we can’t go to the hairdressers anyway), a sponsored bike ride in your local town or a sponsored whole day in fancy dress. Let your child pick out a charity that they really care about, whether it’s helping the local community or raising money for animals in need.

Home Cinema

Who says that you need to have a massive 4K TV and surround sound to create a home cinema experience? Have the whole family feel like they’re back at the movies by creating a home-from-home cinema in your own living room. All you need is a TV, a good internet connection, and a great film to watch and you’re good to go. With this in mind, a bit of research into internet plans such as ATT internet plans in your area will help you find the best speed options providers for you. There are plenty of family-friendly movies to choose from on Netflix, or sign up to Disney plus for just a few pounds a month with your first week free to get access to all the latest Disney releases. Have some fun beforehand making ‘cinema’ tickets to admit your family members to the show, dim the lights, and don’t forget to put popcorn on your essentials shopping list!

Help the Community

If your child has a caring spirit and loves helping others out, there’s plenty of good that you can do in your own community that will not only get you out of the house for a little while but leave you feeling super warm and fuzzy inside. You can join a local community help group, check up on your elderly neighbours to see if they’re doing okay and offer to do their shopping for them if they’re worried about going out, or bake cakes for your entire street – making sure you’re practicing fantastic hand hygiene and wearing a mask if you can, of course.

Arts and Crafts

If you’ve got a creative bunch of kids at home then they’re going to jump at any chance to make, draw or paint something new and arts and crafts are a great way to get their creative juices flowing and have some fun. Art supplies are in high demand right now but don’t worry, you can find plenty of kids’ stationery items at Smudge Stationery. Smudge Stationery is great for having fun and going back to school, with all the essentials like pencils, pencil cases, highlighters, and funky backpacks plus cute sketchbooks for creating art. Draw rainbows to display in your window for the NHS, make birthday cards for friends and family or make figurines out of modelling clay; the list is endless!
