Get your garden summer ready this year!

Are you a budding gardener?  Admittedly, with three small children, it can be super hard to keep on top of the garden.  But, this summer is the year for us to get the garden in tip top shape!  With the warmer weather approaching, means we spend a lot of the time in the garden as a family.  So it feels right to ensure that we have a garden that is safe, attractive and is easy to manage.

We can all forget about our gardens in the winter.  They’re not used as much, which means they can look tired and dull.  Flowers are non existent, fence panels have blown out in the storms and its dirty and unkept.  When it comes to summer, its much about living outdoors than it is indoors, so it is really important to have your garden space looking stylish and neat!

Get help!

For us, its the maintenance.  And therefore one of the things we do is use a gardening service.  It means that although we may be out of pocket by a small amount each month, we have more time to be as a family than having to mow the lawn, or maintain large amounts of outdoor area.  Our garden is huge, and it really would take up a huge amount of time to mow it and trim down the hedges and grass.  Shop around to see what gardening service works for you, and as to whether you need a bespoke service, or simply a one of service.

Decking

We decided to make our garden more usable by building our own decking.  It took my husband a couple of days, but it now is a fantastic addition to the garden.  We have a large rattan sofa on there, which means we are in our own area away from flying footballs and whizzing scooters!  Each year, we simply top up the wood paint on the decking to make it look more presentable.  Over the years, we have also added little touches such as some rope and fairy lights to the posts surrounding the decking, so you can relax and catch a few rays of sun in a hammock!

Garden furniture

You can search most discount apps now for garden furniture for a steal of the price, and normally excellent value.  As I mentioned, we have a large rattan sofa on our decking which we purchased from Wowcher.  We are now into our 4th summer and it is still in fantastic condition, and was at amazing value!  See what works best size wise for your garden.  It may be you prefer sun longers or a table and chairs.

Fence panels

With three children and two that are football mad, our 7 year old fence panels are in dire shape.  That’s why for this summer, we are giving them a spruce with a lick of fence paint and are actually purchasing some new panels.  To make them look even more presentable, we are going to add some foliage and greenery such as ivy to grow up the fences.

Accessories

Even just a few fairy lights, candles or any garden accessories for that matter can feel like a mini garden make-over.  Many shops such as Next and Home Sense have beautiful outdoor living accessories so take a little shopping spree and spruce up your accessories.  If you have a BBQ, consider some new plates, bowls and cups to add to your summer experience in the garden!
