How to Make the Most of Your Garden with Your Family this Summer

As hard as it may be to believe, we are getting ever closer to summer and we are all looking forward to getting out there and seeing the sunshine. We’ve all been cooped up indoors while we wait for the various lockdowns to end here in the UK and now that we can finally sart to see the sunshine peeking through the clouds and better times ahead, we are turning our attention to the garden.

Anyone with a family will know just how important the garden has been over the past year. It’s hard to imagine what we would have done without the ability to step outside and soak up some sunshine and fresh air in the peace and quiet. Now that the weather is good enough for us to get back out there again, it’s high time we thought about how we can maximise that space for group activities and family time. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

how to make the most of your garden with your family this summer

Welcome The Wildlife In

It’s amazing how much more you cherish what’s right on your doorstep when you can’t go anywhere, and it’s fair to say that most of us really started appreciating those little visitors to our garden over the past year. Birds, hedgehogs, even foxes, we’ve all grown to enjoy those brief visits!

A love of wildlife is a great thing to instil in our kids from an early age, so why not think about how you can make your garden a bird-friendly zone? A bird bath and a bird feeder or two is a great way to start, and you can even start thinking about putting in plants and bushes with berries they’d enjoy.  You might even consider including some hammocks within the wildlife, to give you several spaces to relax up close and personal.  Don’t forget your camera!

Create The Perfect Outdoor Family Space With A Deck

There’s nothing like a great British barbeque, but the last thing you want to be doing is worrying about whether your table and chairs will damage the grass. To really make the most of your outdoor dining, relaxing and socialising time, why not install a deck area?

A deck doesn’t have to be that basic image of some planks of wood laid down in a rush, you can personalise the set-up with a stylish, understated look using eco-friendly materials to match the aesthetic of your home. Click here for a site that’s done that well, as Ecoscape can offer contemporary or traditional decking styles.

Get The Gardening Gloves On

One of the most rewarding activities you can do with your children is to watch something grow. So much of our world is centred on screens, and in a world where everything is delivered in seconds, teaching your children about what we can grow in our garden is a great way to get them learning, get them thinking and get them outside.  Or if gardening isn’t your think, as for help! There are so many places you can contact to get gardening help from, why not contact Louisville arborists for garden care services?

From flowers and bushes to fruits and vegetables, you can teach them about the magic that’s happening in our flowerbeds every day. You could even start a club with their friends and keep track of who’s growing what and how it copes with the unpredictable British summer!

About

Hi and welcome to The Willow Tree. I’m Michelle, also known as Shel and I am a mama to three beautiful crazy kids – I have two handsome boys and a wild and wonderful girl.

I really wanted a concrete place to share my love for travel, in particular Disney and offer my readers a chance to gain some knowledge around what we love to do as a family of 5.

I share our family adventures which include days out, travel advice and tips, holiday reviews, restaurant visits and of course, our love for Disney, including Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World.

Life is about creating memories, and here we are sharing them with you

xoxo
