Messy Me Splash Mat review – stylish products made for mess

If you have messy children (who doesn’t!) then Messy Me is the place to go.  I was lucky enough to be sent out an item of my choice to review and honestly, I was spoilt for choice.  With an extremely messy 14 month old Baby K (mostly involving food that goes EVERYWHERE) and an untidy 4-year-old W (mostly involving glitter and trodden play doh into the carpet) I was in desperate need for some intervention!  My eldest B thankfully is tidy!

Messy Me have their very own website where they offer all sorts of products to help keep you and your little ones tidy.  From aprons to high chair covers, weaning accessories to splash mats, there really isn’t any excuse for any mess to escape!  I wanted to choose an item that would be suitable for both Baby K and W.  The splash mat seemed perfect for us!messy me splash mat in grey with starts folded up ready to use

Messy Me – Splash Mat Design

Firstly, I want to mention the design.  I absolutely love the soft grey star design. I knew I’d be using it in our kitchen a lot, so this would blend in perfectly!  When opened, I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the mat, measuring at 90 x 120cm’s.  For me, this is perfect for the younger two to do crafts together and/or to place underneath Baby K’s highchair to catch any lost food!  The material is oilcloth which is super hard wearing and when folded, it’s so easy to store away and perfect to just pop away into a drawer.

Messy Me splash mat – our experience

As the weather has been so fantastic recently (hallelujah!), we’ve been using our splash mat outside.  We’ve really into getting creative and why not outside!  We have a huge box of crafts full of glitter, gel pens, foam shapes, sequins and much more.

I let Baby K and W just enjoy and make a mess without having to worry.  We did use paint which I was a little worried about staining the material.  But I didn’t need to worry.  Using a wet wipe brought off the top layer of paint and then soapy water then gives the mat a thorough clean!

What I found great was that we could just pour the crafts back into the box really easily and as we were in the garden it didn’t matter if a few bits sprinkled off on to the grass – less vacuuming for me!  What’s also super great about this messy me splash mat is that it is suitable for occasional machine washing at 30 degrees!

Final say

We absolutely love our splash mat from Messy Me as it is so versatile!  Not only have we used it for messy play, but it’s also fantastic for Baby K’s meal times and perfect for baking (not that I’m any good!)  We either use it on our work top for cooking, or underneath K’s high chair.  I can then keep the floor clean and tidy and free of any serious food stains on the floor.

I found the mat to be soft to touch and I just love the design.  Its simple yet trendy.  I happily have it on the work top in the kitchen and it really fits in with out kitchen theme.

Do your children enjoy messy play?
