The Paw Patrol Team (Paw Patrol pups as we know and love them!) have joined the gaming world and it was to my 3 year olds delight, that we got asked to review the PS4 version of the game. Paw Patrol on a Roll is also available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One.
Mr K absolutely adores Paw Patrol and whilst he is not huge on gaming being only 3, I thought that this would be a great way in to introduce him to the world of computer games. I imagined that this was something that he’d be able to watch whilst his big brother and sister played together, which was the case.
As this game is suitable for the younger aged child, you can imagine that this is no complex and difficult game. It follows the adventures of the pups through 16 lively rescue missions and where you have to navigate simple yet stimulating challenges. Beginning at Adventure Bay, you’ll see that there are 8 locations to travel to, such as Jake’s Mountain and Under the Waves (which was Mr K’s favourite!) Each mission sees your favourite pups such as Chase, Sky and Marshall tackle the levels and use their Pup skills to ‘save the day!’
As I mentioned above, this game is super simple and is aimed at younger children recommended for children aged 3+. The missions are easy to follow with instructions on what to do showcased throughout the gameplay by Ryder. The game features several collectables that the pups have to seek out during each mission. Mr K loved how we had to collect pup treats (200!) and golden paws (100) as we made our way though each adventure. Most of these were easy to find but some were sneakily hidden around, making the game more of a challenge for them.
Each mission involves two pups to take on the challenge and is split into two sections. If your stuck – fear not, as Ryder is available to offer guidance and advice throughout the game. This was especially helpful to the kids playing as they could remind themselves on what was happening and what they needed to do next. Can’t complete a particular challenge? You can actually call upon different pups to help you out!
In terms of the controller, Mr K didn’t use this as he just couldn’t navigate the controls yet. However Missy (who’s 6) took over and found them easy to use with simple jumping and moving forward and back. The graphics of the game are simple, bright and eye catching for any child. Mr K loved seeing his pup friends moving around on the screen and found it super exciting when we completed the challenges.
Overall, Mr K and Missy really enjoyed playing Paw Patrol on a Roll on the PS4. It’s just a feel good, vibrant game for all the family to get involved in! I feel the age range is fair ranging from 3 – 6. I would say a 7 year old would also enjoy playing this but any age over 7 and they may find it too basic. However, if you love paw patrol, then why not! It’s familiar to so many kids and makes this a fun and exciting addition to many young children’s games collection!
