Review – The Tiger Who came to Tea at The Town Hall Birmingham

A new year – a new family show!

We kicked off the new year with a visit to the Town Hall Birmingham last weekend to see and review the wonderful show The Tiger who came to Tea.  This is a much loved classic book (over 50 years old might I add!) that has now been transformed into a stage production for families to enjoy.  Imagine a show filled with humour, audience interaction and yes even dancing in the aisles – then this is the show for you to unleash your inner child (and that is exactly what I did!)

Are you familiar with the story?  If not, then here’s a sneak peek!

The story begins with Sophie and her Mum waving goodbye to Sophie’s Dad who is off to work.  As the hours tick by (yes, you’ll be involved in the ‘Tick tocking of the clock!), you’ll hear the doorbell ring several times.  Meeting several different guests, you finally get to meet the main attraction – the Tiger!

The Tiger arrives right at tea time, which means that Sophie and her Mum kindly invite him in for tea.  Not only does the Tiger get to enjoy whats on offer, he also clears the whole kitchen of food and drink (including Dad’s beer!)

The Tiger who came to Tea lasts around 1 hour and is a wonderful feel good show for all the family.  The show consists of only 3 actors who hold the show beautifully together.  Every tiny detail is captured from the book, which makes this show really feel like the original classic story.  My kids loved the disappearing cakes and sandwiches when the Tiger gobbles them all up.  Miss W also loved the dancing at the end, which was a lovely addition to the show.

This family show is full of catchy animated songs that see you though the story of The Tiger who comes to Tea, and beautifully performed by the three cast members, who are so enthusiastic and full of life.  All three of my kids enjoyed the show, especially Miss W who said she loved the Tiger – which is a good review in itself!

The show is lively, animated and full of fun so it really is not one to miss!  The Tiger who came to Tea is showing at Birmingham’s Town Hall until January 13th 2019, so there is still time to grab a ticket to catch this wonderful show. Tickets are priced from £9.50 -£18.
