Shrek’s Adventure, London – My Review

One of the children’s favourite films at the moment is Shrek.  And we all know, what the kids love soon becomes what you love.  They love the humour, Princess Fiona and especially Donkey – me too!  So when we were invited along to review Shrek’s Adventure in London, we were all super excited!  We were off to London for a fun packed weekend and this topped the list!

Shrek is located right on the River Thames, right near The London Eye and next to The Sea Life Centre.  The nearest tube is Westminster and it’s not far from London’s Waterloo station.  Shrek’s Adventure is a Merlin attraction, and therefore you can team up your visit here with another.  You can purchase a joint ticket which will give you access to whatever Merlin attraction you want to team up with Shrek.  It’s a great idea and you can save lots!

Via their website, you can prebook your tickets and I would totally recommend doing this as I can imagine that this attraction gets super busy!  Consider going early doors or on a weekday if you are travelling over the weekend and your break includes a weekday.  Having said that, we arrived on a Saturday over a bank holiday at 12pm.  Although south bank and the area around the London Eye was manic, Shrek’s Adventure was relatively calm.

Our Shrek’s Adventure experience

When we walked in, the queuing system was spacious, simple and there was several staff on hand to assist.  We were then greeted by another staff member and taking to a lift where we were welcomed by The Gingerbread man!  This took us to the Bus Tour where we were on a mission to find Shrek!  There was a small queue at ‘boarding the tour’ but only by about 10 minutes.  There is also a buggy area where you can safely leave your buggy and get a ticket to collect after the attraction finishes.  Finally, before entering the tour, we had several photos taken by a member of staff and had a small briefing where we were told to have a SHREKTACULAR TIME!

Our journey began with a meeting with Princess Fiona who talked about the mission.  We then embarked on a 4D bus journey over London and FAR FAR AWAY.  This was epic and felt so real.  It was a curved screen so the show was to the left and right of you as well as in the front.  It felt like you were in the middle of a real life flying bus journey!

We then went from fairytale to fairytale, visiting many interactive live characters. It was really interactive and both adults and children were encouraged to get involved.  We visited Cinders, Sleeping Beauty, The Gingerbread Man and Puss in boots – plus many more!  Our journey even included a walk through a house of mirrors, mixing up a cauldron of delights and even taking part in a quiz!

What did we think?

We really had a fantastic time and the adventure really was one of interaction, adventure and I felt it was so unique in its own right.  I’ve never visited an attraction like this before.  I feel that even if you wasn’t a Shrek fan, you’d still find it ‘Shrektacular!’

The whole experience is around 70 minutes so if you have another place of interest to visit, leave enough time.  Once the tour is over, you are then submerged into a world of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train your Dragon – this is now where you can get your phones and cameras out and take photos (photography is forbidden around Shrek’s tour).

Finally, you have the option to purchase your Shrek’s Adventure photos which were taken at the beginning of the attraction.  Prices are ok and we opted to have our photos emailed to us for £15.  As with all attractions, you find yourself in the gift store.  My children were so hungry by this point that we managed to get through the shop without one ‘I want this!’  Phew!

We really did love Shrek’s Adventure and it stands out from any other attraction we’ve been to as its so unique.  The theming is spot on, its clean and spacious and the interaction is just top-notch!  It really is a great addition to London.  If you are visiting soon, you much add this one to your list!
