As tedious as it is to clean up after a crafting session, there’s lots of benefit for children. It helps them in exercising and building their creativity whilst giving you a chance to spend quality time with them. There’s also the fact that you can teach them how to clean up after themselves and develop good habits. We’ve teamed up with an independent school in Surrey to learn more about these benefits and share them with you below.
We all need an outlet. Something that we can throw ourselves into and a means of expression to deal with our emotions. Art is a way that children can do that. It’s therapeutic and gives them complete control over what to create.
It also gives children the opportunity to work on their hand eye coordination. When crafting, you need a steady hand and fine motor skills to coordinate movements. They will need to pinch, grip and hold using the smaller muscle tissues of the body.
Crafting can also be used as a way of exercising mindfulness. It gives children something to focus on and they can take time in appreciating the different colours and materials available to them. If you don’t know what mindfulness is, it’s a way to reduce stress and often looks at ways to distract yourself and bring yourself back to the present moment.
It’s also an opportunity for them to explore any artistic talents that they may have. Who knows, you may have the next Picasso in your midst.
These are just a few of the reasons as to why arts and crafts are beneficial for children. There are dozens of activities that you can work through together from scrapbooking to knitting. For more handy parenting resources, feel free to take a look at my other posts.
