The best countries for adventure travel in 2022

While relaxing around the pool with a cocktail in hand and failing to move a muscle for a week or so appeals to millions of people, others are assessing some more action-packed offerings from around the world. In fact, adventure holidays are on the rise, particularly given the wealth of options we have available to us.

An adventure holiday can cater for a number of different activities, be it involving water-based fun or via a hike in a treacherous landscape. Many countries offer an array of action-packed activities, but there are certainly some that specialise in adventure travel more than others. Of course, these types of holidays aren’t for everyone, with some people preferring to keep their heart rate low during a vacation away, perhaps opting for some adventure slots for real money instead or the opportunity to get lost in a good book, but for adventure enthusiasts, a holiday of this type just doesn’t cut the mustard. So, if your preference is to hike and scuba dive over relaxing with a book and sampling some spa treatments, then below is a selection of countries that are capable of offering a range of memorable activities for you and the family to enjoy.

The largest country in South America has far more to it than its famous carnival. In fact, in Brazil, the opportunities for adventurers are extensive. Many people flock there to go boating under the Iguazú Falls, while snorkelling in Fernando de Noronha is one of the best water-based experiences you’ll ever have. Additionally, exploring the famous Amazon rainforest could be right up your street, especially if you’re keen to immerse yourself in nature and explore the river and the rainforest in all its glory.

A beautiful country to visit in its own right, Australia is also incredibly popular when it comes to adventure travel right now. With over 30,000 miles of spectacular coastline to explore, the opportunities for fun and entertainment in an outdoor environment are extensive. From scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef and fishing deep out at sea, to hiking through Tasmania’s Bay of Fires and swimming under the waterfalls at The Kimberley, Australia has it all. You can also enjoy some excellent camping trips, alongside having the opportunity to go sky diving and bungee jumping also.

Away from its stylish offerings and its delicious cuisine, Italy is also capable of satisfying any adventure-filled cravings. Boating through Capri’s caves and grottos is well worth doing, for example, alongside skiing in the famous resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo. In truth, though, Italy is filled with destinations that are capable of keeping adventure seeks more than happy.

New Zealand

Not too far away from the aforementioned Australia, New Zealand’s natural beauty makes it mightily appealing to many adventure travellers. From hiking to caving and bungee jumping, you can enjoy it all from Waitomo to Queenstown in one of the most stunningly beautiful countries on the planet. For adventurers, New Zealand is a dream, it’s just ultimately about deciding on exactly what you want to do while you’re there.

Although Thailand is a tropical paradise filled with Full Moon parties and pristine beaches, there are also an array of fun activities to sample while you’re there. Diving is a favourite for many visitors to the country, while zip-lining through old rainforests also appeals. Other options include sea kayaking in Tarutao National Marine Park and caving in Pang Mapha, alongside the opportunity to surf and go fishing, too.

Norway stands as an impressive testament to nature’s wonders, with dramatic landscapes spanning from deep fjords in the west to forests and high plateaus in the east, boasting natural beauty as well as outdoor adventures. Visitors can experience the magic of the Northern Lights or enjoy summer nights with a sun that never sets above the Arctic Circle. Thrill-seekers have plenty of opportunities, such as hiking Preikestolen cliffs, skiing at Lillehammer or joining deep sea fishing Tromso Norway trips for adventure. Norway offers unique natural experiences that attract adventurers from across the globe.

Other countries to consider include Spain, Greece, Portugal, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, and South Africa.
