Things to Do Before Going on a Holiday Trip

It’s exciting going on vacation during the holidays so it’s important to put some things in place to help you prevent any headaches while out of the country. Here are some things to do before going on a holiday trip.

Pay Your Bills Ahead of Time

If you’re thinking about taking a St. John vacation, make sure you pay your bills. One, you’ll feel more comfortable coming back home knowing that your electricity is paid for! Also, you don’t have to worry about getting an automatic payments taken out of your account when that eats into your vacation money.  Also, you want to pay everything on time to avoid getting charged late fees.

Have Someone House Sit Your Home

Pick a friend or a relative to check up on your home. Make sure that everything is in place from the alarm system, your mail gets inside in a safe place, and even help feed your pet if it’s a short trip.  It can also help deter theft because any potential thieves know there are still people going to your house. Not to mention, the right alarm system can help monitor activity while you’re away. You can look at it through an app on your phone and get notifications.

When the mail piles up outside, that’s a telltale sign that no one is in the home. Speak to someone you trust beforehand to check up on your house to ensure everything is in working order.

Clean the House

Not only do you want to clean your rooms and straighten everything up, but you need to remove all of the trash. If you’re gone for a few days, debris can lead to mice, bugs, and other pests that you don’t want in your home. Make sure to wash the dishes and clean the sink as well. It’ll help keep pesky critters at bay. Also, it feels nice to come back to a clean home after a long time away!

Unplug Your Appliances

It’s a solid method to reduce your energy costs for whilst your away. Also, you want to prevent any electrical fires from faulty equipment. One of the worst things is finding out your house has been damaged when you’re thousands of miles away. Take proper safety precautions to help prevent these mishaps. Make sure you write a checklist to help you remember what to do before going on your holiday trip.
