I first visited San Diego when I was 10 years old and fell in love with the place, taking full advantage for the family fun that the Southern Californian city had to offer. When I revisited on our honeymoon, I was reminded of how much San Diego is a family friendly place to visit, full of family attractions. San Diego is located on the western coast of America and about 2 hours drive from Los Angeles. It’s many family fun attractions are all within easy reach and whilst there is so much to do as a family, today I am sharing the top 5 fun places to visit in San Diego with kids! I can’t wait to go back and visit with our children one day!
I think this is an obvious one! The Zoo boasts over 100 acres housing 4,000 animals (yes you read that right!) and is a perfect family attraction when visiting San Diego. The Zoo offers various events throughout the year and even extends their opening hours during the summer months to give guests the chance to visit after dark. There is even a petting zoo for those families with children who love to get up close and personal to the animals. Find out more here!
Located just a short 30 minutes drive from San Diego, Legoland California is a huge family attraction. The family theme park is aimed at families with children aged 2-12 years old and whether you love Lego or not, this theme park boasts over 6o rides, shows and attractions to keep everyone happy. The theme park is also home to Sea life Aquarium as well as a Water Park! If you’d prefer an overnight stay, the Legoland resort offers a themed hotel for that ultra immersive Lego experience. San Diego Air and Space Museum is an aviation and space exploration museum located in the heart of the city. It is home to many exhibitions including over 60 aircraft and a few high tech features including flight simulators and includes an exhibition around women pilots and their contribution to aviation history. Lockheed A-12 Oxcart
Belmont park is situated right on the beach in the Mission Bay area of San Diego and is a historical theme park, full of nostalgia! The park opened in 1925 and is home to one of the world’s oldest wooden rollercoasters that is left in the United States. The park is home to a myriad of exhilarating rides including the Big Dipper, Sky Ropes, Laser Tag and Jungle Gems. Within the area is the beach, lots of restaurants and a boardwalk so is a perfect day out for all the family.
The New Children’s Museum is a new model of the museum where the mission is to stimulate imagination, creativity and critical thinking in this fun and exciting attraction for families.
