Moving house is hard work! Since becoming an adult, I have only had to endure the task once, and that was when Mr B was two years old (and was my only child at the time!) So, writing this post for my future self – here are my top tips to consider when moving house
1.Declutter. It’s no good packing items you dont actually want any more, and then throwing them own once moved. So prior to your moving date, spend time declutter areas of your home. Wardrobes, kitchen cupboards, bathroom cabinets, even whats in the loft! You can even be environmentally friendly and use an online recycling site to easily sell your old phones or iPads taking up space just collecting dust in your house. That way, when it comes to packing, it will be manageable, quicker and you’ll know that what your packing is wanted!
2.When it comes to actually packing, pack one room at a time, so as to not be confusing. Label boxes and items as you go, and that when when it comes to the removal company taking your boxes onto the van, they ll be in some kind of order – you hope!
3.That leads me on to consider removal companies. Ensure you shop around prior to booking, as it can get very expensive, especially if you are moving out of your town or city. Consider searching sites that give you the option of comparing quotes to fit the best one that suits you and your family
4.Storage. Can all your items come with you on the day? Do you have enough room in your new property to house certain pieces of furniture. Again, search for the right storage compartment if so, and figure out what items you’ll need to have stored and for how long. If these items are now no longer needed, consider selling them on via different sites such as Ebay, market place on Facebook and Shpock.
5.Childcare. Whatever day you’ll move, you may need help with someone else caring for the kids whilst you move. If they are at school or nursery, this is helpful. If not, ask a family member to look after your children for a few hours. Whatever needs to be done will be done a lot quicker if so!
6.Stay Calm. They say moving house it meant to be the most stressful thing to do! So try not to get stressed and remain calm and collected. Packing is time consuming and there may be times where it will be stop start. Moving house can also feel frustrating, especially if your waiting for paperwork to be signed, filed and even waiting for the keys last minute!
7. Have fun! Moving house is a new beginning and can be an adventure, especially for the kids. Try to make light of tricky situations, and have fun with the kids when and where you can even get them involved (to a certain extend!) Don’t forget, this can be hard for any child to say goodbye to the only place they may have called home. Have a little leaving party and stay positive!
Good Luck!
