Your child is fleeing the nest and it’s time for them to start school. As emotional as it can be for the children, it can also be a difficult transition for us parents too. For the first time mums that are new to the school run, we have paired up with a boarding school in Birmingham to share a list of things you can expect when your child starts school.
The dreaded school runs. Waking up at 8.00 am is not suited to us all. Managing to wake up the children, doing breakfast and rushing them all out on time for a 9.00 am start is not an easy job to say the least. That too with Cbeebies’ Breakfast with Bear and prepping a school lunch for some. We promise it will get easier and by the end of the week you will have it mastered.
Now starting at the sweet age of reception, you can expect homework every week. Starting with phonics, a new sound is learnt at school every week to build the foundations for reading. It can be a difficult task for children to learn 26 new sounds and especially blending them. Keeping on top of the weekly load and additional practice at home can make all the difference and have your child reading in no time.
It’s only natural for your child to be nervous about starting school but be rest assured that there are ways that your child’s school can help settle them in. Offering half days to begin with and smaller group sizes can help make things seem a little less daunting. To ease them in before starting, talk about how exciting the nursery will be and gently loosen your hand with a goodbye before leaving.
